DAVE MARKEE

WORLD CLASS BASSIST

Dave Markee started off his musical career by training at Trinity College of Music, London, for three years as an orchestral bass player. During his last year he became involved with Ronnie Scotts Jazz club in London. This led him into sessions, working with Eric Clapton and featuring on the third Maynard Ferguson album for Colombia Jazz.

During the 70's and 80's Dave was one of the busiest musicians in Europe in great demand as a bass player with a roster of many famous artists including Alan Price, Georgie Fame, Leo Sayer and the Who. He worked as a session player for producers such as Gus Dudgeon (Elton John) and Glyn Jones (Stones, Eagles).

He has also played for Frank Zappa, Joan Armatrading, Charlie Watts, Larry Adler, Henry Mancini, jazz sax legend Ben Webster, John Dankworth and Cleo Lane as well as the late Bing Crosby.

Whilst working with Joan Armatrading he met Christian guitarist Bryn Haworth. After working with Bryn on his album ‘Keep the Ball Rolling’, Dave’s life was turned around and he became a Christian in 1979. After this Dave and his wife Ze found themselves leading meetings in their home for people hungry to know more about Jesus. From these home meetings was birthed Folly's End Church where Dave is the Senior Pastor.

Dave’s most recent releases have been ‘Yes Lord’, an album of blues and gutsy rock ‘n’ roll, and ‘Catch the Fire’ a worship album recorded live at Folly’s End Church during their Catch the Fire conference in January 99. More information on these albums and Folly’s End can be found at www.follysend.org. Meanwhile, Dave continues to lead worship and speak at conferences all around the world.

Dave has also recently joined up with Jazz band ‘Kymaera’. They have recorded two albums of instrumental versions of George Michael hits, a tribute album to the great Brazilian songwrite Antonio Carlos Jobim, and have played several live gigs, including Ronnie Scotts, throughout the last two years.

Review of 'Yes Lord'
World-famous rock musician Dave Markee gets right back to his roots with this album of blues and rock 'n' roll.
If you like your music more Clapton unplugged than Jim Reeves, you'll love the unmistakably live feel, blues guitars and tight rythms of 'Yes Lord!'
The album kicks in with some solid gusty rock 'n' roll - 'Not to me, but to you I give the glory'. It starts as it certainly goes on, with throaty vocals, raucous solos and a stomping pace. But the band can also bring down beats per minute for some powerful rock worship. 'Sing A Song Of Celebration' - the hugely popular worship song by David Ruis - gets a bluesy treatment. 'Psalm 27' (The Lord Is The Stronghold) gives us a mellow jazz moment. And there are some moving rock ballads - Dave's latest work - expressing the deepest worship.
The title track - eases on with plenty of the blues guitar - is a simple prophetic song that sums up Dave's attitudes well: 'Yes Lord!'
The album closes with 'Amazing Grace' - the blues version. Amazing - Enough said.
